My Wedding Day Prep!

My Wedding Day Prep!

Hey friends!!! I am so excited to be marrying my best friend next month… It has literally snuck up on me… It doesn’t seem like I’ve already been engaged almost a year, but in about 30 days, I will be Mrs. Karmatz! I have been doing some serious prepping, so that my skin, hair, nails and body are picture and wedding dress ready! I have been switching between doing Insanity Max 30 and my own Interval workouts for my workouts and as far as nutrition, I’ve cut my dining out and processed sugars in half!!!! I’ve been eating a more Paleo style of diet.. But not 100% – it just works for my lifestyle and I am celiac and hypothyroid, so it definitely helps. Plus following the 21 Day Fix portion control meal guide, I am golden!!! I’ve gone from eating every 2-3 hours to now doing Interval Fasting… So I eat the same amount of calories a day, but they are in 3 bigger meals and 1 snack.. I go about 6 hours between eating! This has started changing my body composition drastically! I didn’t realize this is how my body would react, because everything I have learned over the past couple of years tells me to stay away from that! But it’s working, so I’m sticking with it!! Between those workouts and my eating style — I’ve lost fat and started leaning out more!!! Plus I’m feeling great! As for my face… Monthly hydro facials and dermaplaning is a MUST! Plus getting my eyebrows sculpted and trained to grow a certain way (yes I had to let them just grow for a couple of months so I could get them shaped just right.) The skincare line and products I’m using is Lytera. And I LOVE IT! My skin feels so clean and bright! And I’m not breaking out or have dry skin anymore. It’s medical grade.. So it’s good stuff! I do the facials & dermaplane so that my skin will be smooth and even for my makeup application. Another thing I have started.. Well, stopped doing, is wearing makeup everyday! I might apply makeup once a week now and it’s very light and I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS use a makeup remover at night, along with my Lytera face wash! I don’t want any cystic acne bumps or marks on my face anytime before the big day! My my hair is faux mermaid red, so it’s a MUST that I take care and preserve my color! I only wash my hair 3x a week, with cold water and Kevin Murphy shampoo and conditioner. I also only blowdry 1x per week and have slowed down on the curling iron and never really straighten my hair anymore. Plus I use a leave in conditioner on the ends! I want soft, silky, manageable hair on the big day! My nails and skin...

My Resentment Towards Food

Posted by on Sep 21, 2013 in Exercise, Krystal, Nutrition

I feel like I have to confess, but I think others can relate… Over the past 6 months I have had the most negative concept of food, again. About 11 years ago is when it came to surface but I have had issues since 1997. I started working out and eating healthy about 4 years ago – lost over 50 pounds and felt amazing! In December 2011 I started feeling AWFUL. Hair falling out, super irritable/moody, dry skin, sleepy all of the time, headaches, feeling like I am losing my mind, insomnia, crazy cravings (especially sweets, which isnt like me), weight gain, etc.. And no matter how I worked out or ate clean – nothing was helping! I soon found out I had severe auto-immune hypothyroid disease, Celiacs disease and severe anemia due to the Celiacs and not being able to absorb any nutrients. I was in complete SHOCK! I have taken care of myself for so long and then my body starts to reject itself basically. I recently learned my cortisol levels are out of wack and other things are starting to happen. I feel like even when I eat a completely GF diet, I am still having “gluten belly”-like symptoms, my skin is itchy, no energy, hair is falling out again and dry and I am not ME!!! Even after upping my dose of meds every 3 months since being diagnosed – not only taking T3, but also T4 meds – Tirosent and Cytomel, I am not back to normal Krystal. In all honesty, I feel like a bandaid has been put on my body and the ROOT cause of my issues are not being addressed. My levels are fine – T3, T4, pituitary and my iron might be a little low, but not enough to cause these symptoms… So I am thinking it has to be something else and the only way I know how to diagnose myself is through food! But my issue IS food! I have gained 15+ pounds and again, no matter how much I workout and eat clean, I continue to GAIN! I continue to feel like crap and it’s overflowing into other areas of my life. I feel like every time I eat a cheat meal I gain weight and I DO! I am getting to the point where I might be consuming 1100-1300 calories a day, not nearly enough, and it is just because I view food as the “devil” basically. This is not healthy and actually harmful. Food is good. Food is fuel. Food nourishes your body and heals itself. Food is a necessity – just not over-processed, GMO injected, crappy “food”. What I put into my body should never give me a negative concept! Over the past week I have taken the time to actually start researching different diets and how to get back to the basics! I...

How Do I Eat Healthy?!

Posted by on Jul 16, 2013 in BeachBody, Exercise, Krystal

It’s not rocket science, but it IS a process… When I first started my weight loss journey I had no clue what to eat, what not to eat, when to eat, how often I should eat, etc… I was a blank canvas with no experience. I thought buying those frozen Lean Cuisine meals would give me the results or drinking the Hollywood Diet Shake or switching from regular sugar to stevia would make all the difference in the world – WRONG! For me eating healthy was a LONG process and a lot of trial and error. It didn’t happen overnight and it took patience. Once I realized that I needed to look at food as fuel and not something I just want, my whole outlook on what I should be eating changed. I didnt like veggies unless they were covered in butter or fried – same with fruit, I needed them covered in more sugar than they already have in them…it’s how I grew up. Did you grow up hearing your parents say “you are not leaving this dinner table until your plate is finished.”???? Yep, thats what I grew up with – so mentally I always thought I needed to finish every bit of my plate, even if that meant stuffing myself. I am also a Texas girl who loves her meat and potatoes (and I dont mean cooked a healthy way). So I had to LEARN how to eat healthy, right from the bottom and also learn to moderate my cheat meals. This is something common I see and an ugly road I have been down: First, you try to cut out everything you love, you take out all your treats and cheats and quit cold-turkey – but then you crave and want everything you cant have, so you run to the store and binge eat – awful feeling, right?! My steps to changing my eating habits started like this: Cut back on eating out to 1-2x per week Replace one item a week in my pantry and refrigerator for something more healthy and nutritious Sign up for MyFitnessPal.com and track my food daily and KNOW how many calories I am supposed to be consuming No snacking while making dinner and lunches for kids Switching from canned veggies to frozen or fresh READ LABELS Drink more water (if you dont like water add fruit or Crystal Light or Mio on occasion) Meal planning Shopping with a grocery list (stick to outside perimeter of the grocery store) Learning what I should eat before and after my workouts Replacing 1 meal a day with Shakeology!!! Buying organic Cutting back on alcohol This is a glance at what I have done over the past 2 years to lose weight and feel amazing on the inside. Just because you can eat 1500 calories a day, doesnt mean it should be of CRAP..bc...

Why You Should Workout In The Morning

Posted by on Jul 22, 2012 in Exercise, Krystal

Need some compelling reasons to work out in the morning? There has been a longstanding debate on what part of the day is the best time to work out. Some people prefer to sleep in and hit the gym post workday while others are hardcore believers in tackling the daily workout at the top of the morning. Despite which school of workout thought you believe in- here are 7 great reasons to work out in the morning and get your day started off right! 1. JUMP START YOUR METABOLISM Some studies show that exercising in the morning can get your metabolism going and can keep it elevated throughout the day. Maximize your opportunities to raise your metabolic rate by including weight training when you do your morning workout. Lifting weights is a proven method of getting your metabolism going, so be sure to include it in your morning routine! 2. GET YOUR MIND RIGHT Prepare for the day ahead by starting it with a workout. You might feel like your head is cloudy first thing in the morning and a workout is the last thing on your mind, but it will definitely clear your head and you’ll be much more alert and awake afterward. What better reason to work out in the morning than starting off your workday with a clear mind? Hitting the gym is much more effective in increasing your mental acuity than hitting the snooze button. 3. FIGHT THE CROWD For those who go to the gym to work out, the earlier in the day you get there, the less crowded it will be and the faster you will get out. I’m sure you’ve had experiences where you carve out an hour to work out and the gym is so crowded or gym rats are roaming around socializing and getting in the way of your workout that you end up spending double the time there. Think about it-no waiting in line for a machine, no being elbow-to-elbow with anyone while working out and having free reign of the gym is an awesome reason to work out in the A.M. 4. CONSISTENCY IS KEY Yet another good reason to work out in the morning is that you are much more likely to stick with your daily workout when it’s done in the morning. In the evening you won’t have the excuse that you’re too tired from work to exercise, no last-minute invites to dinner or happy hour or any other commitments to prevent you from your sweat session. What better feeling is there than knowing that your workout can be crossed off your «to do» list first thing in the morning and your evening is free to do whatever you want?! 5. BETTER SLEEP Working out gets you energized and if you work out at night it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to get in the mindset to...
