From 6 weeks to 6 months….WHAT?!?!
Well…it’s time for the update with my ankle injury…unfortunately I dont have good news to share!
In the beginning we thought I would be back to my normal workouts within the next few weeks, I think June 2nd was my 6 week follow up appointment – I would have been moving onto wearing the aircast for 2 weeks and then by the middle of June be boot and aircast free….but thats not the case
The damage I did to my ankle is worse then the doc thought. After another round of xrays and such it was determined I have a Grade 3 sprain (the worse possible) and my anterior as well as posterior ligaments have been overstretched. Along with the fractured bone, there is also another crack which was missed during the first round of xrays because of the swelling! I have a 3-6 MONTH healing time
Yes, I will be in this boot for another 4-6 weeks and then the aircast for about 4-6 weeks after that…I am allowed to wear the aircast while I am at home as long as my ankle is wrapped as well, but while I am out of the house it needs to be wrapped and in the walking boot!
Monday morning I start physical therapy 2-3x a week for the next 6 weeks. The doc said if I did this then I would most likely be fully recovered within the next 3-4 months – but absolutely NO plyometrics, running, jogging, stair climbing, jumping, etc..until then…SO basically no TurboFire (maybe lightly modified) and definitely no Insanity for awhile…I might be able to jump on an elliptical in about 4 weeks – just depends on how my PT goes…
I am not letting it get the best of me tho…This is the time to focus on other things in my life, its a time to re-evaluate, move forward, climb over this mountain and make the absolute BEST of it…
I am kinda excited for the journey I am about to take – I know I will be able to help so many other people out there that have injuries and are trying to recover from them…
So there is the update – hopefully the next one is better!
